Fragrant Dried Lavender for Bags and Potpourri
Fragrant dried lavender is just what you need for filling scented bags or for natural potpourri! Lavender varieties are not all as fragrant as each other and you might find that the deeper the shade of blue the milder the scent.
Fragrant dried lavender has a grey colour
If you want a good strong fragrance, look for the greyer lavender grains, which can be grey-green or grey-blue. These come from Lavandula x intermedia which is a great variety for scenting a room or using in lavender bags. Natural lavender bags are lovely for that linen fresh smell and can be left in drawers and cupboards. They’ll deter moths too!
Inexpensive fragrance
Happily this type of lavender is also the least expensive because it is grown in bulk in France.

A kilo pack is our most popular size.
The same great fragrance is also available from lavender grown under organic conditions.
Why is this lavender so fragrant?
The reason this variety has such a good scent is that it’s been bred by the growers to have a high essential oil content. This is the type that oil is distilled from every year in Provence. It’s then added to home fragrance products, potpourri, toiletries and laundry products for that wonderful clean, floral, fresh scent!
Why would I want to use a different type then?
Some people prefer to use other types of lavender for various reasons:
- If a better colour is needed, for example for wedding confetti. There’s a pale blue variety which is perfect for this and it still has a good fragrance but is milder.
- Some people sometimes find this lavender scent a bit overpowering in which case we’d recommend the pale blue one mentioned above.
