There are so Many Uses for Lavender!
Here are some of our favourite uses for lavender:
- Make lavender bags
- Keep clothes fresh
- Sleep pillows
- Natural potpourri
- Insect repellent
- Wedding confetti and favours
- Bouquets and home decor
- Use lavender essential oil to relax
Make lavender bags
Put a handful or two of fragrant dried lavender in a pretty fabric bag or pouch. Add to drawers, wardrobes and linen cupboards or keep one in the car, cloakroom or other small space. Put one under your pillow.

Keep clothes fresh
If you put your lavender bags in with your stored clothes, they will absorb a little of the fragrance. Lavender fragrance is often an ingredient in laundry products, so your clothes will stay smelling “just washed” a bit longer!
Sleep pillows
Put a lavender bag under your pillow. Lavender is well known for its relaxation effects and can be boosted further by the use of lavender oil. Maybe add calming dried hops or soothing chamomile.
Natural potpourri
Dried lavender grains make a natural potpourri, just display some in a bowl. To enhance it with a strong relaxing lavender hit, just add a few drops of lavender essential oil from time to time.
Insect repellent
Lavender is a natural insect repellent, and famously deters clothes moths. Another good reason to put lavender bags amongst your clothes! The dried flowers or oil won’t kill the critters but they will make it unwelcoming for them.
Wedding uses for lavender: confetti and favours
Lavender makes a lovely fragrant wedding confetti and throws like rice. We recommend a pretty blue one with a mild scent. Add other petals such as dried rose for a pretty confetti mix if you wish.
Lavender bags make great wedding favours as they’re natural, plastic-free, useful, pretty and inexpensive. Choose a fabric colour to match your scheme.
Little dried lavender posies are another idea for a lovely wedding favour. They can double as a take-home table setting or place card – just add a tag with the guest’s name.

Bouquets and home decor
Dried lavender can make a gorgeous bouquet. There are two broad types of lavender stems – one is long, straight and pale blue or the other is shorter, slightly wavier and dark blue.
If you’re making a mixed bouquet I recommend the darker variety as its slightly wavy stems give a more relaxed feel. However you may prefer lighter shades of lavender or need long stems.
To use lavender for home decor, cut the stems down to attach to a wreath, or display lavender bunches in vases, jugs or jam jars. Why not tie twine around a bunch and hang upside down on the wall.
Use lavender oil to relax
Here are some ways to relax with lavender oil:
- Put a few drops of lavender essential oil in a bath for a soak before bedtime.
- Dilute a few drops of lavender oil in a massage oil for a relaxing massage.
- Put a few drops of lavender oil on a tissue in your handbag and inhale when needed.
- Place a few drops of lavender oil in water in an oil burner and enjoy the relaxing aroma.
[Warnings – always follow the safety instructions on any essential oil bottle. Oils may mark textiles, and damage painted, polished and synthetic surfaces. Exercise caution when using oil burners and never leave them unattended.]
